The UBO register was created to fulfill Article 45, paragraphs 15 and 16 of the General National Ordinance on National Taxes (hereinafter referred to as “ALL”), which states that the administrative party is required to report information about the ultimate beneficial owners to an entity designated by national decree, holding general measures, with general application. This also sets out further rules on the form and content of the UBO register and how the information should be reported.

UBO stands for “Ultimate Beneficial Owner,” translated into Dutch as the “uiteindelijk belanghebbende” or “uiteindelijk gerechtigde.”

The launch of the UBO registry in Curaçao is pivotal for enhancing the transparency and integrity of the financial system, crucial for combating financial crimes, fraud, money laundering, and terrorism financing.

The UBO register ensures compliance with international standards set by the Financial Action Task Force, strengthening Curaçao’s financial sector and international standing.

Entities in Curaçao are mandated to disclose their ultimate beneficial owners, promoting accountability and fostering a trustworthy business environment.

The Chamber of Commerce and Industry is designated as the entity that maintains the UBO register. The Secretary of the Chamber is responsible for the registration of data and the provision of data to the competent authorities. Read more
